Hebei Messi Biology Co., Ltd. stated that from a global perspective, Japan’s annual production capacity of ultrafine high-purity magnesium hydroxide ranks first among all countries, followed by the United States and Russia. Although my country has also achieved encouraging results in recent years, there is still a large gap compared with developed countries.
According to statistics from Hebei Messi Biology Co., Ltd., there are currently hundreds of magnesium hydroxide processing companies in China, including more than a dozen magnesium hydroxide companies with a certain scale, with an annual output of about 10,000 tons. From the perspective of enterprise production scale, enterprises with a production capacity of less than 5,000 t/a account for 50%, and enterprises with a production capacity of more than 10,000 t/a account for less than 5%. There is no prospect of industrial alliance cooperation and development between enterprises, and the scale effect of enterprises cannot be reflected. For example, there are many manufacturers in my country, small scale, and poor product quality; there are many ordinary products and few special products; most manufacturers have outdated equipment, backward technology, poor self-control level, and unstable product quality. In addition, the existence of problems such as disorderly competition in the domestic magnesium hydroxide industry has made it difficult for my country’s magnesium hydroxide enterprises to survive and develop.
After more than 20 years of development, the domestic magnesium hydroxide product varieties have also developed from the initial “brucite” and “magnesium hydroxide flame retardant” to high-purity nano magnesium hydroxide and medical and food magnesium hydroxide of different specifications. From the perspective of product structure, only about 10% of them have been surface treated. It is obvious that more than half are coarse powder products, while fine functional products are in serious shortage, and the problem of imperfect product structure is more prominent.
As a mineral material for energy conservation and emission reduction and green environmental protection, magnesium hydroxide is widely used in plastics, flame retardants, coatings and rubber industries. Its application advantages are mainly reflected in:
1) Saving resources and energy is of great significance to building a conservation-oriented society and implementing a sustainable development strategy
2) The application of magnesium hydroxide non-metallic mineral powder has environmental protection characteristics;
3) Reduce the cost of raw materials for products and improve the market competitiveness of products;
4) Optimize, improve or enhance certain properties of materials (especially plastics and flame retardants);
5) Give plastic materials new functions, which are impossible to achieve by directly using polymer materials.
From the perspective of market application, Japan’s annual consumption of ultrafine magnesium hydroxide ranks first among all countries, followed by Western Europe and the United States, while my country’s magnesium hydroxide enterprises have a surplus of ordinary products and few special products, which cannot meet the needs of the world market and the domestic high-end market, resulting in a large amount of foreign exchange spent on high-priced imports of ultrafine magnesium hydroxide.
