The present invention relates to a method for preparing a high-viscosity silicon steel grade magnesium compound. It is characterized in that brine, ammonium bicarbonate and carbonized ammonia water are added to the reactor respectively, reacted to obtain magnesium compounds, and then calcined to obtain highly active magnesium oxide. This high-activity magnesium oxide is hydrated under certain conditions, and then magnesium hydroxide is dried and calcined under certain conditions to obtain high-viscosity silicon steel grade magnesium oxide, which can be crushed, graded and packaged. The high-viscosity silicon steel grade magnesium oxide produced by the present invention can be comparable to the dense forsterite-type insulating film formed by the reaction of traditional silicon steel magnesium oxide and silicon dioxide on the surface of oriented silicon steel sheets.
