Analysis and Research on the Hydration Rate of Magnesium Oxide for Silicon Steel

When magnesium oxide is mixed with water, the following reaction occurs: MgO+H2O=Mg(OH)2. We call this reaction the hydration of magnesium oxide. The so-called hydration rate refers to the ability of magnesium oxide to generate magnesium hydroxide.

Application of spherical magnesium oxide 2

As an isolation layer before high-temperature annealing of oriented silicon steel, that is, the magnesium oxide layer, it is usually made of magnesium oxide and an appropriate amount of water into a slurry, which is applied on the steel plate and dried. The free water in the coating is basically eliminated during the drying process. However, the magnesium hydroxide formed can only decompose this part of the bound water at a higher temperature (about 400~600℃), so it is brought into the subsequent process by the steel coil. This part of the bound water brings a lot of trouble to production and directly affects the coating quality, and then affects the product quality and its appearance quality.

In order to improve product quality and select better magnesium oxide as silicon steel isolation coating, Hebei Messi Biology Co., Ltd. analyzed the hydration rate of some domestic and foreign magnesium oxide products for silicon steel, studied the various factors affecting the hydration rate and the relationship between suspension and hydration rate, and explored the effect of hydration rate on the adhesion of silicon steel products.
